This week in maths, 3S are working on using their knowledge of the 10 times tables to begin working out relational facts. This builds upon what they have learned in year 1 and 2. In these year groups they discovered their number bonds to 10. In year 3, they are now realising how these facts can help resolve calculations with greater thinking. These are called relational calculations.
Today, the children in 3S have been using the manipulatives around the classroom to identify the multiples of 10, followed by what calculations they will need to achieve it. The children used the base 10 to find and identify numbers. They made base 10 robots and worked out what multiplication sum could be identified. Furthermore, they worked with their teams to partition and find the place value of 3 digit numbers within the 10 times tables.
