In PSHE this week, year 3 have been researching what a volunteer is and how these people can be recognised as very influential people when running different charities for all causes. The children had to research their chosen charities and work together as a team using the iPads and their own knowledge to create information posters, before finally presenting these to their class.
The children worked well together and showed us some excellent learning behaviours including their creative skills, leaderships skills and social skills. Within their groups of 4, 1 person led, another scribed and 2 people researched and relayed facts or key information they had found out.
At the end of the lesson, the children discovered how great the importance of volunteers were to the charity work which takes place across Great Britain and the world. In line with what is being taught in our RE lessons, the children recognised that many of our Hawes Side values mirrored many Christian and Islamic religious values.
3S have been working on subtraction with three-digit numbers by exchanging.
3S have been very resilient this week. Initially, they struggled to grasp the method and process of column subtraction and exchanging their numbers. However, with a lot of determination and skill, the children are slowly mastering this new skills with scaffolding.
In Mr Fleckney's English class this week, the children have been discovering what imperative verbs are. The children took a dip into Mr Fleckney's bossy box filled with imperative verbs. Then, they had to tell him the imperative verb, followed by putting it into a sentence or command. Watch some of these videos to see how well they did! Well done everyone!
At the end of next week, the children will be writing a set of instructions based upon the story, 'Where the Wild Things Are'. Their instructions will be telling us 'How to Catch a Monster'!
