Our Year 6 children were invited to formally apply for a position on the Pupil Leadership team for this academic year.  This important role is about representing our academy and upholding our five core values that guide us in everything we do:

Reflection, Resilience, Respect, Responsibility and Relationships

Those who chose to apply, were asked to write a letter to Mrs Boothroyd sharing what they felt they could bring to the team and how to embody the academy’s values. After much thoughtful discussion with the applicants, and deliberation, we are proud to announce the leadership team for this year:

Our Principal Pupil Leaders are Lola and Poppy

Our Vice Principal Leaders are Ethan and Brooke

Mrs Boothroyd was truly impressed by the calibre of all the applications. Each child brought a unique voice and shone in a way that made the final decision incredibly difficult. We are very fortunate to have such a strong group of young leaders who live out our values every day and are ready to represent their peers with pride.

Meet the Pupil Leadership

Getting to know our Pupil Leadership

Question:  What do you think you will bring to the role of Principal/Vice Principal?

Answer:  Ethan said he would do his best to be a good role model and Lola will bring passion to the role, always trying to do her best.

Brooke wants the very best future for Hawes Side and will try to support the Hawes Side community.  For Poppy, she would like to promote kindness and understanding.  Poppy said she wants her peers to realise that mistakes are OK, as long as we learn from.  A great message for us all Poppy!

Question:  Which one of our Hawes Side values sums you up?

Answer:  Poppy's value would be responsibility and relationships.  For Brooke it is relationships as well.  Ethan's value is respect and Lola says all the values sums her up!

Question:  What is your favourite subject and why?

Answer:  Lola's favourite subject is science because she has an enquiring mind and likes to explore the possibilities.  Ethan really enjoys PE because he likes being athletic plus it helps keep him fit!  Art is Brooke's favourite subject because Brooke is very creative.  Keeping on the creative theme, Poppy really enjoys creative writing in her English lessons.

Question:  When you grow up, what do you think you would like to do as a career?

Answer:  Brooke being the creative person said she would like to either act or be a hairdresser.  Poppy wants to study hard to become a doctor whilst Ethan would like to write stories and be a published author.  When Lola grows up she would like to work with children.

The Pupil Leadership continue to show maturity and sincere understanding of the importance of their roles.  We are very proud of these young people and what they bring as role models to our Hawes Side academy and community.

Who are our OPAL Ambassadors

We are delighted to introduce our new OPAL Ambassadors for this academic year.  These children have been carefully chosen because they consistently demonstrate all our academy values.

The role of an OPAL Ambassador is a vital one. These pupils are intrinsic to creating a positive and inclusive playtime experience. They actively engage with their peers, help monitor and care for equipment, support the building of friendships and contribute new ideas and solutions to make playtimes even better.

This year’s OPAL Ambassadors are Freddie, Violet, Valerie, Ava, Oliver, Maddison, Erin and Harry.

Question:  Thinking about your role as an OPAL Ambassador, what qualities do you think you will bring?

Answer:  Harry wants to encourage his peers to be kind and helpful and Oliver would like the same too but also promote responsibility and respect.

Ava and Violet, much like their peers, will bring responsibility and respect and focus on kindness.

Freddie is the 'ideas man'!  Bringing good ideas and maturity to the role.

Happiness is paramount to Valerie.  She wants to bring fun to the role of OPAL ambassador, hoping to make others happy.  Erin would like us all to get along together, share and promote positive play at breaktimes.

Maddison said she will bring all the Hawes Side values to the role and will always try to be the very best she can be.

We have no doubt our ambassadors will strive to do their very best promoting our values.

School Council

As well as our Pupil Leadership and Opal Ambassadors we have a dedicated group of children from across year groups who form our School Council.  These children represent our pupil voice which is a very important part of our academy life.
