On Tuesday 15 September 2026, our Headteacher, and the Pupil Leadership Team had the exciting opportunity to travel to Stanley Park to join children from schools across Blackpool in welcoming the Duke of Edinburgh.
The children were thrilled to witness the Duke’s arrival by helicopter before watching him unveil a special commemorative plaque on the newly refurbished clock tower.
It was an especially memorable day for Oliver, one of our Year 6 pupils, who was invited to join a small group of children to speak with the Duke as part of the official welcoming committee. As it was also Oliver’s birthday, it was certainly a celebration he is unlikely to forget!
The rest of our pupils also had the chance to meet the Duke as he greeted children on his way through the park. When asked about what they enjoy doing at Stanley Park, the children were delighted to share their favourite activities.
As a special memento of the occasion, all the children were presented with a commemorative medal to remember this historic day.
We are incredibly proud to have been involved in such a special moment in Blackpool’s history and to have represented our academy at this memorable royal visit.
