It was wonderful to see our school community come together to celebrate World Book Day. This year’s theme was ‘Book at Bedtime’, and the children arrived at school dressed as though they were ready for a cosy bedtime story. A truly resplendent array of pyjamas, onesies, and other bedtime attire was on display.

The staff joined in the fun as well, with several year groups adding their own creative twist to the theme. In Years 3/4, pupils were taught by characters from The Wizard of Oz, while in Years 5/6 they were joined in class by the likes of Frida Kahlo, David Attenborough, and Marie Curie!

As part of the celebrations, we held a very special assembly where the children had to guess the identities of our ‘Masked Readers’. It proved quite a challenge to unmask these secret storytellers, after all, who could possibly be the mysterious ‘Disco Ball’? I’m sure the children will be happy to tell you!

The creations for ‘Book in a Box’ have been absolutely amazing. What wonderful imaginations our children have! We’ve seen everything from Jack and the Beanstalk to Octopants, from The Twits to Cinderella. The journeys the children have taken us on through their beautifully crafted boxes have been truly inspiring, and it has been fantastic to display them in our library area for everyone to enjoy.

Finally, our children have been ‘caught reading’! Yes, they’ve been snapped reading in cars, hanging upside down, in front of Big Ben, and even while doing Taekwondo! Who knew you could read anywhere, and in such wonderfully unusual places?

It has been truly wonderful to see how enthusiastically the children have engaged with World Book Day, along with their parents and carers. We hope the day has helped bring to life the joy of reading and the pleasure of sharing a story together.

“The books transported her into new worlds and introduced her to amazing people who lived exciting lives.”
