This week in Mr Fleckney’s class, the children have been working hard to master the skill of summarising. Using Janet and Allan Ahlberg’s story of ‘Burglar Bill’, the children have focused on developing their reading and comprehension skills to develop their understanding of the story. This has been shown through class discussion, partner reading and echo reading. After each page the children have been a ‘copy cat’ and pulled out the main points from each page, often recognising that some details are not needed in order to create a short but informative synopsis of what they are reading.

Maybe the children could have a go at retelling this story at home with you!

In an attempt to predict what would happen in this book. On their post it notes, the children had to write a prediction about what they believe may happen next. Sienna believed that Burglar Bill may steal gold from the bank, whilst Sapphire thought there was a chance Bill would get caught by the police as he stole belonging from houses.
