This week in year 3, the children have been focusing on ‘shell structure’. These are hollow structures with a thin outer layer. They may protect something, hold something inside or shelter people from the elements. An example includes the Sydney Opera House in Australia, along with something much smaller - a desk tidy.
The children have worked collaboratively and experimented with different joining techniques in readiness to make their own desk tidy.
The children created flanges, slotting mechanisms and L braces to name but a few of the many techniques they explored. The session was spent building and creating these using the cardboard you kindly donated to school.
We need A LOT more to create our final product - today was just a small teaser as to what we got up to.
